Finally... An alternative to Century Tel Telephone and DSL services in the San Juan Islands (continued)

...With Century Tel customer satisfaction at an all time low, our island county was ripe for wireless broadband combined with VOIP (voice ofer internet protocol). The combination of these two emerging technologies would allow home and business users to bid farewell to their traditional phone lines and the antiquated infrastructure that Century Tel has adamantly refused to upgrade as a matter of official fiscal policy.
...Luckily, Century Tel's monopoly is coming to an abrupt end as this is being written. Two broadband service providers, ClearWire (san Juan Wireless) and Rock Island Internet have both rolled out wireless broadband services in Friday Harbor, both with plans for expansion. Although ClearWire was the first to go online and is available in Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor, Rock Island intends to offer their broadband wireless county wide. Rock island is promoting the most comprehensive packages with three price ranges. The base price is $34.95 per month, with a $50 hookup (sweetened with a $40 dollar rebate). Rock Island also offers pricing discounts for those who pay six months and one year in advance.
...Broadband has come to the San Juan Islands. This will allow Rock Island customers to say goodbye (and good riddance) to Celtury Telephone forever. Click here to learn more about Rock Island's wireless broadband services, and to find out if when it will be available in your neighborhood.
